Sustaining a Clean Environment Enabled By Cutting-Edge ICT Innovations
We believe clean resources such as water, air and energy are essential for our city residents to lead healthy and productive lives. A low-pollution and low-emission environment coupled with clean resources will ensure a sustainable development path for Dubai in the longer term. Dubai has maintained cleanliness of its water and will continue to do so by fully complying with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for water quality.
A low-pollution and low-emission environment coupled with clean resources will ensure a sustainable development path for Dubai in the longer term.
Air quality will be kept in allowable safety limits through continuous monitoring in terms of GHG (Green House Gas) emissions, ambient noise and also electromagnetic radiation. GHG emissions will be reduced through a targeted program consisting of several action items. Since buildings are major contributors to GHG emissions in most cities, Dubai is revising its building regulations and also applying modifications to existing buildings (retrofitting) to contain GHG emissions. Solar energy will be used to a certain extent in order to boost renewable clean sources of energy through the Shams project. Among other action items, power and water tariffs will be adjusted; water reuse and efficient irrigation techniques will be employed. These will all contribute to reducing GHG emissions in our city. We will encourage smart financing mechanisms including public and private sector partnerships to innovate clean and environment friendly solutions for our city. Hybrid and electric vehicles will be used gradually as sustainable transportation alternatives.
Dubai intends to continue on its path for economic and social prosperity while sustaining its resources and maintaining the cleanliness of its environment.
